Have Fun With Waterproof Disposable Cameras
Whether you're taking a snorkeling trip, spending the day at the beach, having a pool party, or camping outdoors, having a camera along that can tolerate water and moisture can assure you take home some memories in the form of photographs.
Because many of us need the waterproofing features only on occasion, spending the extra cash for a waterproof housing or more rugged camera seldom makes sense. This is where a waterproof disposable camera can step in and do the job without breaking the bank.
Taking Photos Underwater
Electronic devices are very sensitive to moisture. The typical camera, digital or film, will not tolerate a plunge in water. In most instances, it's imperative that a camera stay out of the rain, snow, heavy fog, and even the splashing, wind, and sand present at the beach.
If you want to be able to use a camera to capture the memories in these wet enviornments, you have three primary choices:
- A waterproof camera
These cameras tend to be a little bit more expensive than other camera models, but do allow you to take photos in harsher environments, including underwater. Traditional waterproof digital cameras have become increasingly popular. They often tolerate not only water, but cold temerpatures and falls much more readily than other cameras. However, if you're on a budget or you simply don't expose your camera to these threats routinely, you may want to go a different route. - A waterproof housing
Some digital cameras have waterproof housings available. Typically, these are the higher end cameras. The housings in these instances tend to be quite expensive so they're something that only avid photographers, divers, snorkelers, and so forth opt to buy
On the other hand, you can also purchase waterproof cases and bags that are more affordable, but not constructed for your specific camera model. Many of these will help your camera survive a splash or perhaps a swim in the pool, but your camera may be a bit harder to operate since the controls will be more difficult to access. In addition, these less expensive cases often don't tolerate increased pressure like the more expensive custom cases and therefore, can't go as deep. - A waterproof disposable camera
If you need a waterproof camera only for special occasions, then it can be more affordable to just purchase a disposable model as needed. The photo quality won't be as good as a full featured camera but it can still be impressive with reasonable color saturation and exposure. These cameras are fairly simple, but that's generally what most consumers want when trying to manipulate the camera while involved with swimming or other activities. When choosing a waterproof disposable camera you'll want to be sure you know at what depths they will function and the number of exposures they will provide, to assure they function in the manner you need.
The Advantages of These Cameras
A waterproof disposable camera can save you money if you need them only occasionally. For instance, these disposable models are good for:
- Snorkeling excursions
- A day at the beach
- An excursion by canoe, raft, or kayak
- Camping trips
- A pool party
- Hiking and mountain biking if you'll possibly be exposed to rain or snow
- Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and so forth where moisture will be present and changing temperatures can create condensation
- Any time you'll be outdoors and don't want to risk your more expensive, traditional camera

I've taken these on rafting trips with friends, and we always end up wishing we'd had even more of them. But I hadn't thought of taking them snorkeling...

I love waterproof cameras. The last time we were in Hawaii, we took some awesome photos of all the fish when we were snorkeling. They turned out great. I prefer either the housing or a regular waterproof digital camera because the quality is so much better, but they can get quite expensive.
christine, my daughters have taken some great pics with these!
I've used these and loved them! They are so worth it if you are going to be anywhere even around water, or in the rain or near a sink or toilet with water. lol...you get my point!
Nice hub! and I was searching this one.
Waterproof disposable cameras are relatively inexpensive and waterproof! Think of all the fun photos i and my kids can take at the pool and the beach.
