Tips for Choosing the Right Device
The average car USB charger is very affordable and will take up little space. They should charge most portable devices that use a standard USB connection. When you purchase one of these devices you might want to consider just a few things.
- Number of devices
Some of these chargers are capable of charging only one device at a time, others can accommodate two at a time. - Status
It can be useful to know when the device is charging and when it's done with the task, therefore an LED indicator light is very handy. - Protection
The best car USB charger should offer circuit breaker protection and ideally, surge protection as well. - Flexibility
If you want the charger to work in a 12v socket and standard AC outlet as well, look for this feature. - Compatibility
Obviously, you'll want the charger to be compatible with the devices you want to charge. Some models are designed specifically for a given device (for instance, an iPhone) but others are more universal. If the device you wish to charge uses a standard USB connection and requires no special software or adapter, many of these chargers will work. You might also want to check the power requirements, specifically how many milliamps are needed and match that up to what the charger can handle. (i.e.: 700 mAh or 800, etc.) - Connection
Most of these USB car chargers merely accept the USB charging cable that comes with your device. Without this cable, you may need to purchase the cable separately.

it is told, that some divices have a kind of blocking system to prevent usage of universal chargers, so you have to use only the charger which is purchased with the device.
is it true ?

Great tips. Since many devices charge via USB these days, it's great to be able to have a universal charger in the car.
